The City of Quebec economy and culture make for one of the most impressive of all Canada cities. Quebec City is located in the province of Quebec. The official language within the city, much like the rest of the province is French. It is the second most populous city within Quebec with only Montreal beating it to the post. It is one of the oldest cities in North America which is reflected everywhere you look from the architecture of the buildings right the way through to the wonderful Quebec business and culture.
City of Quebec Culture and Architecture
Due to its European roots much of the city of Quebec is dominated by traditional European Architecture. The buildings are mainly made of stone and the streets in the city adopt the traditional feel that you would expect to see if you visited France. One of the best examples of the architecture within Quebec is the massive Chateau Frontenac which dominates the skyline from most places within the city walls. The history of the city is also illustrated with the various historical sites throughout the city. In fact at least 37 of the most important national historic sites in Canada can be found in Quebec alone.
Quebec Culture – Winter Carnival, Art, and Fine Dining
The Quebec culture is incredibly diverse. The city is well known for playing host to the Winter Carnival every year where grand buildings are constructed out of ice as well as a number of other winter related activities including a winter amusement park as well as skiing opportunities.
For a real taste of the Quebec culture you can always visit a number of the historic sites throughout the city, including the field where the French finally lost control of the city to the British. There are also a number of art galleries adorning the streets, one of the most famous is Citadelle of Quebec.
Of course, the main speaking language within the city is French and this is clearly reflected in the food dishes that you can find in one of the many city restaurants.
Quebec Economy and Government Employment and Tourism
Being the capitol of the province much of the city of Quebec economy relies on jobs in the public sector. This includes administrative jobs as well as jobs in defence. The government is in fact the largest employer in the city having over 28,000 people under its control. The unemployment rate of the city is around 4.5% which is fairly low compared to many other locations throughout the western world. The government is actively working however to bring these people into employment.
The Quebec economy also has contributions coming in from the amount of tourists that visit the city to lay their eyes upon the beautiful architecture as well as take part in the numerous festivals that take place throughout the year.
Quebec Economy and Manufacturing
Unlike many other cities there is still a large amount of manufacturing that goes on within the city walls. In fact over 10% of the jobs available can be found in this sector. The city primarily produces basic products such as paper and wood. More recently it has expanded into a hub that produces electrical items. All of these contribute significantly to the Quebec Economy.
Quebec City is a fantastic place to visit in Canada. Many of the traditions and looks of this fine city are richly rooted in French customs. This makes it a fantastic getaway from many of the other major cities within the country.
